Bitter orange Citrus aurantium amara Growing mainly around the Mediterranean basin, the bitter orange (Citrus aurantium amara) is a small fruit tree with pure white flowers. From its blossoms is extracted the precious orange blossom water, renowned for thousands of years for its delicate fragrance and soothing, calming and refreshing properties. It was in the late 17th century that the princess of the town of Nerola, in the province of Rome, made bitter orange essence fashionable by using it as perfume for her gloves and bath. She has since given her name to this precious water.
